Pottsville Mixed Use Development

The once sleepy, delightful coastal town of Pottsville now has a bustling village centre that still manages to hold on, perhaps tenuously, to a laid back coastal vibe. This is quite a feat, as the appeal of coastal living attracts more people to live and visit the area.

With zoning allowing medium density mixed use development all along the main street, a weighty responsibility rests with us, as Architects, to ensure that the essence of the place is not lost as inevitable development occurs.

We seek to achieve this in the project by articulating the building mass with smaller parts and employing an Architectural language that make it appear almost 'house - like'.

This language includes weatherboard cladding, projecting balconies with pergolas and a building envelope that steps back from the street for the uppermost story.  As a result the development is a polite neighbour to existing smaller ones, hopefully setting a precendent for other similar buildings in the future.
